Welcome! I am a contemporary artist, living outside of Washington DC. By day, I am a physician (neurologist and public health specialist), military veteran, CEO and Co-founder of the Center for Contemporary Sciences, and the author of two books. You can read more of my bio here.
But by night, I’m an artist. Self-taught in art, I view my artwork as complementary to my medical background.
Art is not what you see, but what you
feel. As a neurologist, I understand how colors, shapes, textures, and form can
evoke emotional experiences. These forms of visual perception are also
neurologically integrated with other sensory stimuli such as taste, touch, and
even sound. Collectively, the interconnectedness of these sensory inputs
creates an experience that is larger than the sum of its parts. I use my art to
help the viewer experience an emotion—whether a sense of calmness, empowerment,
nostalgia, awe, amusement, or happiness (a vastly underappreciated emotion
today).
I use a variety of mediums and techniques and bold color--never wanting my art to become repetitive. But I tend to approach all my art with a bit of raw wildness and spontaneity-- thus keeping my art organic. I especially enjoy mixing different techniques and mediums on the same paintings to keep them dynamic and unexpected.
I just emerged as a professional artist in 2021. Here are some recent shows and recognitions:
